The quality of the build environment is essential for the identity of our cities and cultural landscapes. Building culture (Ger. Baukultur) is thus a central element in social debate with the living environment. The Federal Foundation of Baukultur assigns a report on the quality of the built environment in Germany 2014 (“Baukulturbericht 2014 – Bericht zur Lage der Baukultur in Deutschland”) to obtain insights of building culture in the current implementation. A report with graphics and text will be created by the Chair of Urban Design and Urban Development in collaboration with the German Institute of Urban Affairs (Difu).
Literature research and secondary analyses are implemented – especially the three focus themes of the Federal Foundation: 1) “habitation and mixed accommodations”, 2) “public space and infrastructure” and 3) “planning culture und process quality”. The outcomes were complemented by focus groups, local surveys and results from public consultations and workshops.
Recipients of the report are the Federal Government and the German Bundestag. They will be sensitised for building cultural themes and informed about current developments and need for action within the scope of Baukultur by the report. On top; the results will be processed for the interested (professional) public.
